Alexa Johnstone in our demo kitchen discussing her second book,

The kitchen and author events for 2009 have closed. Look out for our 2010 schedule to commence in February. Register for our newsletter to be the first to know. Remember, we keep each event to limited numbers so you can enjoy a true interactive experience.

Our eternal gratitude and thanks go out to the following wonderful chefs, cooks and writers:

Alexa Johnston for Tuesday 15 September 2009.

Alexa was our first author event at the new store on Ponsonby Road. It was a sell out night as Alexa regaled us with stories from her follow up to the smash hit "Ladies, A Plate", the terrific "Ladies, A Second Helping".

Peter Gordon for Saturday 3 October 2009.

Growing up in a small town in New Zealand, Peter Gordon didn’t discover avocados or sushi until he moved to Australia in his late teens. From there he travelled to Asia where a whole new culinary world opened before his eyes.

Often dubbed the ‘father of Fusion cuisine’ — a culinary style that integrates various regional flavours and cooking techniques in order to create innovative new tastes — Peter reveals in Peter Gordon: A Culinary Journey how he developed his unique culinary philosophy, influenced by his travels around the world, exploring different cuisine, foods, tastes and cooking ideas.

Illustrated with stunning photography from renowned photographer Jean Cazals, Peter takes us on a journey through Asia, Europe and the Pacific and presents 80 delicious recipes plus the key ingredients that epitomise Fusion cuisine.

Go Fish with Al Brown for Sunday 4 October 2009.

In an absolute culinary treat, acclaimed Wellington chef Al Brown joined us for an exclusive customer event on Sunday 4 October 2009 from 3pm. Multi talented Brown, who is the owner of scintillatingly successful and celebrated Wellington restaurant ‘Logan Brown’, is also the star of  the TV Show ‘Hunger for the Wild.

He utilises this extensive experience and passion for food in his fabulous new cook-book: ‘Go Fish’

Featuring more than 100 fish and shellfish recipes, ‘Go Fish’ is a magnificent guide to both sourcing and cooking fish. With the onset of summer, this book will provide an invaluable reference to a multitude of fresh fish dishes, which are sure to be enjoyed by all. Be sure to get a ticket to meet the character behind the cook book as he shares his love for New Zealand cuisine. Tickets are $70 and include a copy of ‘Go Fish’ personally signed by Al Brown (RRP $65), refreshments inspired by 'Go Fish' and a talk by the man himself.

Richard Till for October 13.

Richard kept us entertained with stories from his new book, "Richard Till Makes It Easy". A very enjoyable night and a great book which features many useful and flavoursome recipes. Richard never fails to entertain with his unique style.

Anna Hansen for discussing the stunning book "Coco".

Anna Hansen is the chef and owner of The Modern Pantry in London. Anna featured in the unique new book "Coco". Ten of the world's leading chefs nominated who they believe to be the 100 emerging chefs in the world. Anna is the only Kiwi to feature in this book. Great value too!

Julie Biuso for discussing "Never Ending Summer" on November 17.

Another entertaining evening when Julie took us through her fantastic new barbeque book, "Never Ending Summer" (if only that were true!). A wonderful book to use all year round. This is Julie's 14th book and she has excelled with this one. We tried a few "things on sticks". Yummy!

Lauraine Jacobs for Tuesday 8 December 2009.

Our last author evening for the year. And what an event it was. Lauraine is one of the great New Zealand food writers with a resume to back it up. Writing for over twenty years, internationally renowned, current food editor of Cuisine magazine and recently appointed President of the New Zealand Guild of Food Writers. Crikey! Lauraine entertained a packed house with stories about the delightful "A Treasury of New Zealand Baking". Not only did Lauraine edit this book, she also contributed four recipes. This is a great value for money cookbook. To top the night off, Lauraine shared her personal experiences with the legendary Julia Child. A truly memorable evening.

Adie McClelland for Thursday 10 December 2009.

Our very last author event for the year saw us host Adie McClelland, the author of "Black Dog Cottage Cookbook". This is a unique New Zealand cookbook with recipes inspired by many years of visiting Greece. When not in her home town of Wellington or her favourite Greek destination, Hydra, Adie and family can be found at their bach in Hawkes Bay. You guessed it, it is called the Black Dog Cottage.
