The idea to open Cook the Books stemmed primarily from a love of food and cooking and from the enjoyment and pleasure of opening a book filled with food ideas. When you enter the store you will immediately love the feel of the store and the décor. Set aside plenty of time to experience the delight in being surrounded by hundreds of cookbooks. Comfortable chairs and great music invite you to sit and view a selection of books at your leisure. Our friendly team is keen to assist you make the most appropriate choices. If we don't have it, we'll work hard to find it for you or suggest an alternative title. The people that work at Cook the Books are as passionate about food and dining as anyone could be.
Situated at 19 Williamson Ave (just down from Ponsonby Rd) in Ponsonby, Auckland, you will find us in our beautiful brand-new store. To the rear of the store is custom designed Demonstration Kitchen and Culinary Workshop space built by Mastercraft Kitchens where we hold many events and all our Culinary Workshops. Undoubtedly, many people share a love of all things culinary and since opening in April 2003 (orginally in Mt Eden Village), we have welcomed thousands of people to the store.
We often hold book launches and special events at the store with local and international food writers and chefs. We are thrilled to have welcomed Gordon Ramsay, Darina Allen, Rick Stein, Peter Gordon, Anthony Bourdain, Bill Grange, Donna Hay, Paul Mecurio and Anna Hansen from overseas and local authors Peta Mathias, Julie Le Clerc, Ruth Pretty, Peter Chaplin, Richard Till, Julie Biuso, Al Brown, Lauraine Jacobs, Alexa Johnston, Unna Burch, Chris Fortune and many more.
PERSONAL IN-STORE SERVICE
As an independent specialist bookshop we have total control over our stock selection, and have a commitment to stocking an interesting and ever-changing range of cookbooks, including the culinary classics, the interesting and unusual, as well as all your favourite new releases. We also have an access to an extensive range of professional culinary titles. These may not always be on the shelf but are readily available from our suppliers. Our staff love to read, and love to cook and are always willing to recommend their favourite titles to you. All of us at Cook the Books are passionate about food, be it the latest recipe we've tried, or the latest place we've dined when eating out, and we love to share that passion with our customers.

We strive to stock a diverse range of titles. If there is any title that you wish to own and we don't have it on the shelf, we can order it in for you. We are able to source a huge range of titles from New Zealand and overseas. You can order in-store or through this website. Please contact us if you are unable to find the title you are looking for.
PERSONAL ONLINE ORDER SERVICE
Are you unable to come into the shop? Would you like to send a gift? We can mail books to anywhere you wish. For presents, we can even gift wrap and, if your require, select a card from our great range. You can order through this website, or by phone or email. Postage rates will be quoted on application.
